The job goals of this position require the incumbent will be responsible for technical service to communicate product application technology to the field sales organization to meet customer needs for the purpose of maintaining and increasing sales consistent with the Business plans and strategies.

 

Principal End Results

% of Time

80%     Determines the market and product needs and provides technical support for major product and market programs.

 

20%     To maintain an ongoing relationship with sales, marketing, and technical personnel and significant customers within his/her application area to provide new SGC product requirements to customers and to provide technical and market information to the appropriate Business Unit/Market.

 

Background Skills & Requirements

This position requires a BS Degree in an engineering related discipline with 1-2 years’ experience and or desire to combine technical challenges & customer interface in their career path. The incumbent must have a strong technical background, with an emphasis in mechanical, mathematics, and/or ceramic areas. Incumbent must be able to perform in sales atmosphere. Person must rely on market and technical knowledge in responsible area, management skills, human relation’s skills and persuasiveness to get things planned and accomplished.

Tasks

 

The learning experience includes the design, development, testing, evaluation and introduction of standard, modified or new products; the study of competitive products and processes; the interpretation of product needs; the determination of product specifications and end use conditions; the definition of quality requirements and product capabilities based on knowledge of product properties and compositions.

 

Be a player in the testing and evaluation stage of a project, if recommended that a product not be released, incumbent is expected to help define the product’s shortcomings and steps for a course of action to overcome the deficiencies.

 

There is a heavy reliance by field sales personnel on the Product Engineer’s support for initiating and selection of effective tests at customer’s plants. Our ability to obtain volume business is almost entirely dependent on a successful test program.

 

Incumbent makes customer and field calls to analyze and solve product problems; studies new grinding processes and systems; keeps informed on competitive product activity, new products and product programs in the field; evaluates results of the test program and promotes the sale of successfully tested standard modified and newly developed products.

 

Travel is expected 30-40% of the time.

 

Environment & Physical Requirements

Office / travel environment with frequent walking, computer & telephone usage.
